[1] Call For Papers: Pan SIG Shared Forums

<> Proposals for this year’s May PanSIG conference at Nanzan University are now being accepted.
<> The theme is "From Many, One: Collaboration, Cooperation, Community." 
<> In line with the theme, our GILE SIG is cooperating with the Pragmatics SIG and Learner Development SIG to organize two joint forums.

Two Shared SIG Forums
  (with LD and Pragmatics)

(1) Understanding Helpfulness in the Arts of Learning & Teaching 
    Coordinator: Jim Ronald (Learner Development LD SIG)

  • Format: This will be run in the same style as our GILE SIG Forum, featuring simultaneous mini-presentations by multiple speakers.
  • Length: Each mini-presentation will last 20-minutes and can include the use of posters, i-pads or whatever suits you best
  • Presenters wanted: If you’d like to do a 20-minute mini-presentation for this, please contact Jane Nakagawa 

(2) Learner development, global issues and pragmatics: exploring different connections
    Coordinator: Reiko Takeda (Pragmatics SIG)

  • Format: This forum will consist of a panel of 6 presenters (2 from each SIG).
  • Length: The forum is 95 minutes in total. This will give each SIG team 25 minutes to speak (plus 15 - 20 minutes for Q&A)
  • Panelists wanted: If you’d like to be a panelist for this, please contact Jane Nakagawa

Deadline for Joint Forum Proposals  (Feb 10)

  • For both forums, interested GILE members should send proposals by e-mail to Jane Nakagawa <janenakagawa AT yahoo.com>
  • Please submit proposals by Sunday, February 10, so these shared sessions can be finalized and submitted by the coordinators before the February 15 Pan-SIG deadline.
  • Proposals should include: your name, affiliation, JALT membership number, the forum you’re applying for (#1 or #2) PLUS your title and an abstract of up to 100 words (for printing in our handout)
  • When sending proposals, please put “Proposal for SIG Forum #1” or “Proposal for SIG Forum #2” in your Subject header
  • Jane will acknowledge receipt of all email proposals. If she does not reply, please resend your message to her as it may have got flagged as SPAM.
  • Once the forum presenters are finalized, she will get in touch to let you know if your proposal has been accepted.
  • Proposals which we can’t include in these shared forums can be submitted as individual proposals (see below)

Deadline for Joint Forum Proposals  (Feb 15)

  • The deadline for individual Pan-SIG proposals is  Friday, February 15  (just 3 weeks away!). 

Please consider submitting an individual proposal on a GILE theme. 
This is a great chance for you to share your ideas with teachers in Japan!
